| The Children's Program is similar to the adult program in Kung Fu, but
with an extra focus on safety, individual attention and confidence building.
Children learn basics, technique, form, and sparring. The major difference
is the defensive techniques taught to children, which are more limited
in scope and focus on scenarios a child is more likely to encounter. We
especially emphasize escapes and counters to standard "school yard"
attacks such as punches, pushes, full nelsons, head locks and mounts (someone
sitting on their chest while punching them). We don't encourage our younger
students to use punching or kicking in self defense situations involving
another child. We prefer they use escapes and restraints that are effective
and easy to remember once they begin practicing with us.
Much of this involves basic wrestling skills. This is a fun and effective way to teach self defense and physical culture to children, because kids love to wrestle. In our program, they get a chance to learn basic self defense wrestling on the mats. To reserve your child's space, call us now at (703) 920-9746.
